FUNDRAISING
PalmQuest is excited to announce our sponsorship of Douglas Hong and David Hird as they run their final marathon together in New York City in support of Alta Community in Los Angeles.
Alta Community in Los Angeles is our selected non-profit partner for 2023. Alta Community is a non-profit started by chefs Keith Corbin and Daniel Patterson dedicated to empowering communities through food. They believe that changing how people eat improves their health, mental wellness and confidence.
Using the original LocoL space in Watts as their home base, Alta Community will reopen LocoL as a daily restaurant with a new mission to include three focus areas:

Address Food Insecurity in the Community.

Vocational Training Curriculum.

Create Opportunities for Entrepreneurs from the Local Community.
ABOUT THE RUNNERS
Douglas and David became friends during their freshman year at Piedmont High School in California when both joined the cross country team. Through countless miles, hill repeats, and track workouts they quickly formed a bond, one can only develop through "shared pain." As their friendship progressed through high school, David would introduce Douglas to NYC rap (KRS1, Big Daddy Kane), his rudimentary turntable skills, and Howard Stern. Also sealing the deal was their passion for the San Francisco 49ers and Golden State Warriors. Over 30 years later, they have decided to run their final marathon together, the TCS New York City Marathon. They are teaming up to raise money to help community-focused LocoL to rise again in Watts.
